我的生死录... 7-8 August 2008 Between Life & Death

7 August 2008

8am… Brought Baby for his 1st checkup… slight jaundice but doctor said he should be fine in a couple of days… next went to do up his birth registration… Baby is officially known as Nion Huang2 Guan4 Xi1 黄冠熹!!
Next up, my checkup with Dr. Wong. Did an ultrasound to look at my womb… no dark spots and so my womb should be cleared of blood clots / any other pregnancy tissue… the stitches on my epitosomy were also ok…

12.30pm… With everything settled, we make our way home…

5.30pm… Nion started crying; he’s hungry with his mouth opened wide looking for food… asked mama to make some milk… carried him from his bed and seated on the edge of my bed; mama came in with his bottle and I fed him his milk, only the 2 of us in the room…

5.45pm… was half way through feeding Nion when I sudden felt a warm gush of liquid flowing from below… was surprise for the 1st moment; thought that I had urinated… but the gush of liquid wasn’t stopping so I looked down… BLOOD!! Shoot!! What’s happening…?!? There on the floor was a puddle of blood… and imagine how thick my mattress was (about 12 inches thick)… how much blood have I lost?!? Shouted for Nick to quick come and carry Nion… Nick came rushing in, along with mama and Niko… Passed Nion to Nick and I collapse on the bed but still conscious… Everyone was in a state of shock that I think they have no idea what to do… I told Nick to call for ambulance… ‘called 995… emergency’… dunno when the ambulance came and the paramedic said to send me to the nearest hospital… Nick was companying me all along…

6.25pm… reached cgh… was pushed into A&E… was poked a couple of times as they put me on drip and try to draw some blood to do testing… but I think cgh is not really the place for o&g cases and so, they sent me to kkh instead…

8.57pm... we reached kkh… doctors did hb count for me; value was 8.2… doctor was telling me normally they give when the count is 8.0 and was telling me some complications lar if do blood transfusion blah blah blah… so I ask if I’m 8.2, dun think I need lar?!? did internal examination and I felt something came out… should be blood clots… my tummy was being pressed to see if there’s any more bleeding coming from below; nope, nothing… so they decided to ward me for further observations… I was isolated from the rest of the ppl… I had a room to myself even though I requested for B2+ ward (5 bedded room); think is 1 of the procedure the hospitals had implemented since SARS ba~ since I’m ok already, asked Nick to get me some milo before he went home~

10.30pm… pressed the call bell for nurse… needed to relieve myself and b’coz I lost so much blood, cannot stand up lar so no choice… nurse gave me the urine pot and I told her I’ll press the bell again once I’m done… nurse came back 5 minutes later even thou I had yet to call for her… what she saw gave her a shock!! It’s all bloody!! I were bleeding again!! The next thing I know, doctors and nurses came rushing into the room and I was being poked in my hands as they tried to put the plugs into me just in case I would need them… think they drew some blood to do some testing also… things were moving fast and I heard my hp went off… was Nick but no way I can answer it… just then another nurse came in and told was patient’s husband and the doctors immediately ask the nurse to call Nick to rush down right away… hmm, must be very serious now then… doctors and nurses were asking me questions like ‘did you have any food?’, ‘when was your last meal?’, etc, etc, etc… food = solid stuff I asked myself… told them I had my lunch in the afternoon… but I din tell them about the milo… was told by the nurse ‘don’t fall asleep…’ not long after, heard Nick’s voice in the room… how come he’s here so fast?!? Must have speeded all the way here… it was raining then… hmmm… the doctors told him that I needed immediate operation and started to push me to the OT…

8 August 2008
12 midnight… Nick was left outside of the OT alone… there’s a lot of ppl in the OT… dunno who and what they will be doing… again, the ppl in the OT ask me the same questions about food again and I thought it’s not right… so I told them about the milo I had… and the doctors got panicky!! 1 of the warn me that I meant get something something which I cannot catch but what the heck, you dun operate on me now I would die also… so they got me to sign some papers… how to sign with all the plugs and drips in my hand and I cannot see without my specs… anyhow lar… next someone gave me a mask and asked me to start taking deep breathe… everything starts to blurrrrrrrrrrr out then… As I regain my consciousness, there’s only 1 person sitting beside me… ‘o u awake, ok let’s go back to ward…’ and I was being pushed out of the OT… Nick’s there waiting for me… too weak already, din talk to Nick, just nodded my head…

4.30am… I was back in the ward… think I was too exhausted, I fell asleep again… but every now and then, could hear footsteps and ppl taking my temperature… couldn’t be bothered… just laid there…

11plus am… woke up and saw Nick was still around… he told me everything’s ok already… just then a doctor came in and told me of the procedures that they did earlier… my BP was just 82/39… the normal being 120/80…!! And my hb value had dropped to 6.5 instead of the normal 11.2… so they had to give me blood transfusion, a total of 10 bags; 7 red cells and 3 plasma...!! they found that my OS was still open (by right should be closed already after giving birth) and that I still had some pregnancy tissue left in my uterus… they have to do emergency evacuation of my uterus if not i will still continue to bleed… but however in the process of doing the evacuation, because my uterus was still very weak and thin, they punctured my uterus!! In the end, they had to do scope and repair the uterus!! Wah lao… how ‘heng’ can I be?!? So what’s the consequences of this puncture?!? I have to go thru C-section if I am to have another baby… No way am I going to have another baby…!! After going through 2 pregnancies that left me with memorable experiences**…

And so I was there, being confined in that room, with ppl watching olympics and the whole nation celebrating national day... finally got doctor’s approval to be discharged on 11 August 2008… but then, still need to be on antibiotics for 6 more days… and to go back for a follow up check 1 week later…

come to think about it, i could have die if my blood type is those very rare type...

**with Niko, I had high fever due to urinary tract infection… and was re-admitted to hospital and because it was during SARS period, I was also in isolation and was hospitalized for a few days before being discharged…
